Meet Ashly our dental hygienist who joined the Artistic Dental
team in April 2014. Ashly is studying for her Bachelor’s degree in
Applied Health at Arizona State University.
Where did you grow
up?
I grew up in Central Illinois and moved to Phoenix in
December 2013.
Why did you decide
dental hygienist as a career path?
My grandfather was a dentist and I suppose I got my
inspiration from him. He was an older parent so he died when I was young, but we
had all his dental equipment that we would play with as kids. I remember the
dentist chair he owned, it was very old school, it had the foot pump so you
could adjust the height of the chair. I also had an accident in 2nd
grade which damaged my front teeth. I had to go through orthodontics and
eventually after ten years of hating my smile I got veneers to correct the
problem. Drawing on these experiences made we choose a career path in dental
care.
What is the one tip
that you give to patients about oral health time and again?
Floss. People make every excuse not to or say they used
other techniques such as Hydro Floss but it’s important to get into those
hard-to-reach places with regular dental floss.
What is your favorite
food to eat?
A steak dinner. Being new to the area I’m still exploring
places to eat but The Keg serves up a good steak.
What do you like to
do most in your free time?
I have a 7 year old son who keeps me busy. He plays baseball
and we like to go to the batting cages and hangout and swim at our pool. When I
have some time by myself I usually catch up on school work and study.
